India's largest tractor exporter, Sonalika, is set to launch electric quadricycles in Europe, starting with the Netherlands, and invests Rs 1,000 crore in EV development.

Sonalika Tractor Expands Into Microcars and EVs

With a particular focus on Europe, Sonalika Tractors, the largest tractor exporter from India, is expanding its business by entering the electric quadricycle industry. The company intends to focus on the micro-mobility market in Europe, initially in the Netherlands. Sonalika's response to the increasing need for sustainable and clean transportation options around the world is reflected in this action.

Investment in Electric Vehicle Projects

Sonalika's electrification project, which includes electric tractors and quadricycles, will require an investment of about Rs 1,000 crore. The company is designing items especially for Western markets in collaboration with a multinational engineering firm.

In an interview with Autocar Professional, Raman Mittal, Joint Managing Director of Sonalika Group, stated, "We are at a good stage of developing the quadricycle product." He intimated that the product would be available in 12 to 24 months, but he did not give a precise launch date.

Product Development and Market Readiness

According to Mittal, the quadricycle is presently in the feedback phase of development and is being designed in India with assistance from international partners. "The prototype is complete, and we are reviewing user input. "We are getting close to the endgame, but we're not in a rush," he continued, implying that the business was nearing the finish of its product development process.
Sonalika is growing into the electric vehicle market while holding a dominant position in the tractor market.

With a market share of over 34.3%, the Punjab-based company leads India's tractor exports and retains a 13.5% portion of the domestic tractor industry. By branching out into electric quadricycles, the company hopes to expand beyond its current market and capitalise on the emerging transportation landscape.
