Indian-Made Bharat 4680 Cells Power Ola Gig and S1 Z: The Future of Electric Mobility

The CEO and founder of Ola Electric, Bhavish Aggarwal recently posted a tweet stating that the recently launched Ola Gig and S1 Z scooters will be equipped with Ola's Bharat 4680 cells. However, the deliveries of these scooter models will start in April 2025.

Moreover, in a recent event "Sankalp 2024", Aggrarwal also stated that these Bharat 4680 cells will be integrated into all of Ola's electric vehicles by 2026.

Ola Electric also claimed that lithium-ion-based Bharat cells are five times more powerful (275 Wh/kg) than the traditional 2170-variant cells for electric automotive applications. In addition, these cells are said to have a longer lifespan with over 1,000 charge cycles and function well over a higher temperature range of 10 to 70 degrees Celsius. Not only that, these cells support fast charging, reaching 50% charge in just 13 minutes.

Ola Gig and S1 Z Specifications

The Ola S1 Z is designed for urban riders who use scooters for personal commutes, while the Ola Gig, as its name suggests, is designed for gig workers. The standout feature of these models is their removable batteries, which add convenience for personal users and can be significantly helpful for commercial applications. Notably, this will be the first time Ola Electric is using removable battery packs in its vehicles.

The entry-level Ola Gig is priced initially at ₹39,999 and is ideal for short-distance commutes. It offers an IDC-certified range of 112 km and a top speed of 25 km/h. Gig is equipped with a 250 W motor and a single 1.5 kWh removable battery, specifically designed for lightweight, urban use. In addition to Gig, the Gig+ variant, initially priced at ₹49,999 is meant for gig workers who travel longer distances or carry heavier loads.

On the other hand, the base Ola S1 Z is available at an initial price of ₹59,999. It is powered by a 2.9 kW hub motor that can be configured with either a single or dual 1.5 kWh battery setup. The dual-battery setup offers an IDC-certified range of 146 km, while the single-battery setup provides an IDC range of 75 km. This scooter reaches a top speed of 70 km/h and can accelerate from 0 to 20 km/h in just 1.8 seconds. The S1 Z also comes with an LCD console for a better riding experience.

For those looking for a versatile scooter for both personal and commercial use, the S1 Z+ is a go-to option that is priced at ₹64,999. Built for urban and semi-urban roads, it shares the same technical specs as the base model but comes with additional accessories suited for commercial purposes.
